Foundation for Surgical Education
HOME

Dear Colleagues,

The Foundation for Surgical Education and I would like to invite you to attend the 3rd Annual General Surgery Update postgraduate course. This surgical assembly will take place Thursday – Saturday, January 19-21, 2012, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This continuing medical education course will bring the practicing surgeon up-to-date on the latest developments in General Surgery. Clinically oriented, this course offers general surgeons an intensive overview of problems encountered in daily practice and will be of substantial value in preparing for board and recertification examinations. Audience discussion and feedback will be encouraged through the presentations.

I am very excited about this upcoming program. As a long term educator of surgical medicine and a CME course director of over thirty general surgery education symposia, I have a passion for education and feel that we have a responsibility to ensure the continued education of practitioners. Past supporters of this CME course include WebMD Health Foundation and the Craig Family Trust.

I would be honored to have you attend our course in 2012 and promise an exciting and informative program. We hope you can join us for this important event, and I am sure you will find our new location in Las Vegas to be a great experience.

A.R. Moossa, MD, FACS, FRCS

About Us

Foundation for Surgical Education History

The Foundation for Surgical Education (FSE) started in 1983 when Dr. Moossa came to the University of San Diego, School of Medicine from the University of Chicago.  At that time, federal and state funding for education purposes were already starting to dwindle.  In addition, the university budget was very restricted.  The current dean who recruited Dr. Moossa (Dr. Robert G. Petersdorf) advised Dr. Moossa to start a non-profit foundation to provide flexible funding to help surgical education and research.

Funds have been derived from friends, grateful patients and other charitable foundations such as WebMD Health Foundation, the Craig Family Trust and Xenomics Limited, LLC.

The first three individuals who provided seed funding were the late Dr. Pat Dailey (Cardiac Surgeon), the late Arthur Bloom (Business Entrepreneur) and the retired professor of plastic surgery Dr. Lenny Glass.

The Foundation for Surgery Education (FSE) has funded several residents, medical students, fellows and junior medical students by providing seed money for research projects and traveling stipends to national meetings and to center with special expertise across the world.  This includes Scotland, England, France, Hong Kong and Japan.
